Dr. Sandra J. Flowers
From the day I first stepped foot onto Salve Regina’s campus, I knew that this was the place where my desire to become an educator would be brought to fruition. Little did I know that my formal schooling would extend many decades later to earning a doctorate at this same place. For this and many other reasons, helping the University to continue its mission to provide a mercy-based education has become an important goal of mine.
Although I was fortunate enough to receive an undergraduate degree through scholarships, I have always been aware of the financial stress placed upon so many students who want, and deserve, the world-class academics that Salve Regina provides. As a lifelong Newport resident, I see the many contributions made by Salve Regina graduates through the careers for which they were so well prepared. I know that the University continues to be one of our city’s greatest assets.
Therefore, as the opportunity arose to share some resources via the Salve Legacy Society, I saw it as one way to pay tribute to the Sisters of Mercy and others who played an important role in my training and in my career. It is indeed an honor to be one part of the University’s focus on nurturing so many—professionally, academically, and spiritually.
